NYSTA has always strived to inspire and educate voice professionals, both locally and globally, and this year our Events and PDP chairpersons have outdone themselves: we have an exciting and inspiring season lined up for you. In addition to two new exciting PDP courses (Developing Critical Listening Skills for the Voice Studio, and Exploring the World of Vocal Literature: Finland, a two-part series of lectures and a demonstration recital), we also have some other very inspiring events lined up.
Our season opening event will feature Vy Higginsen and members of the Gospel for Teens Choir from The Mama Foundation for the Arts' School of Gospel, Jazz, and R&B Arts in Harlem. After Vy presents her research and message, her singers from the Mama Foundation School will perform traditional gospel and spiritual songs that have been passed down through the generations through their oral history and "person to person" teaching. Please join us for this inspiring and informative once-in-a lifetime musical experience. This event will be followed by a celebratory reception.
We are also pleased to announce a new PDP event series for NYSTA members: video chats with highly respected professionals from the fields of voice science and pedagogy. This season, we will be offering two video chat sessions (October 27, and March 30) - Recent Advances in Vocal Anatomy, with Dr. Scott McCoy, and Recent Advances in Voice Acoustics and Resonance with Dr. Donald Simonson, both recent NATS' presidents. These video chats will provide an opportunity to catch up on the latest research in these fields, as well as to ask any or all of the burning questions you may have on these topics.
These are just a few of NYSTA's upcoming events this season. I do hope you can join us for these truly inspirational events. As always, I look forward to seeing you then.
